Yesterday, Fox ‘News’ political ‘reporter’ Major Garrett broke the news on his campaign blog, The Bourbon Room, that political consultants Paul Begala and James Carville were joining the Clinton campaign.
It was a big scoop. There was one problem, though. The story was completely false.
Carville was the first to cry foul, saying that he had “not spoken to anyone in the Clinton campaign about this” and had no plans to join the campaign in any capacity.
Begala followed close behind with a similarly strong denial: “As I say to the boys: N.H.D. Not Happenin’ Dude.”
So, did Fox ‘News’ and Major Garrett correct or retract their report?
Nope. You can see the original report here which still contains no correction and remains unchanged from yesterday. Garrett did make a second, separate post in which he reprinted an email denial from Begala. Instead of correcting the record, though, Garrett proceeded to lie some more, claiming that Begala and Carville had participated in a strategy conference call with the Clinton campaign, a claim both Begala and Carville also deny.
Today, Begala again tries to set the record straight; this time with a column at the Huffington Post. He even includes his email exchanges with Garrett in which Garrett tells Begala he will take his denial “under advisement.”
This is just bizarre.
Despite the denials from Begala and Carville, Fox and Garrett have continued to repeat false information, writing that “[t]he final decision is due tomorrow but the current intention, as The Bourbon Room first reported, is to bring Begala and Clinton on board as day-to-day strategists on a volunteer basis.”
So, what’s the deal Major? Have you been dipping into all that bourbon in your room?

If, after today’s primary in New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton falls further behind Barack Obama, will she decide she has no hope but to launch a full-scale attack campaign on Obama? Will she allow he deep-pocketed supporters to form an “Anybody-But-Obama 527 Committee.”
I sure as hell hope not.
As Josh notes, this will require a major gut check. I personally haven’t decided who to support for the Democratic nomination,. But if you ask me, Clinton must realize that this election is not about her. It’s about America. And if American Democrats want Obama as their nominee, she should get out of the way.

The Unity Party should really just get it over with and get ready to endorse whoever becomes the Democratic nominee.
After all, a president from which party is more likely to provide the following?
–clear descriptions of how they would establish a government of national unity
–specific strategies for reducing polarization and reaching bipartisan consensus
–plans to go beyond tokenism to appoint a truly bipartisan cabinet with critical posts held by the most qualified people available regardless of political affiliation
–proposals for bipartisan executive and legislative policy groups in critical areas such as national security.
Seriously, the problem with American politics is not partisan polarization. The problem is that only the Democratic Party is serious about addressing the real issues facing average Americans from across the political and economic sprectrum.
Meanwhile, the Republican Party is no longer a party interested in the common good. It is a party captured by corporate interests, blindly adhering to a regressive and failed ideology, and consumed with greed and fear.

You know when a celebrity television personality like Bill O’Reilly arrives at a political event because they always have a retinue and because people turn their cameras and camera phones from the candidate to capture the famous face. When the popular Fox News entertainer arrived at the Obama event in Nashua, people turned to him but not always approvingly. “Hey O’Reilly,” yelled a man. When O’Reilly turned he got a single-finger salute. A few people approached Bill to shake his hand but the overwhelming sentiment was unfavorable. “O’Reilly hatemonger,” yelled a woman. A few other people gave him the bird. “I hate you Bill,” yelled a man. “You can’t stop us Bill,” yelled another. I thought someone might brain him with one of those Obama “Hope” signs.
A number of people shouted falafel, the word O’Reilly used in a racy set of telephone conversations with a young woman he was trying to seduce as he described a shower they might take together. He meant loofa, which is not a Middle Eastern delicacy but a bath item.
